Whether just an accent or acting as the main focal point of a room, a single chair can make or break a setting. Always on the lookout for that perfect statement piece, I think I found it in the recently launched Cartesian chair from California-based designer Alexander Purcell Rodrigues.
Its simple silhouette makes for clean and elegant lines yet the colorful anodized-aluminum finish adds a bold modernity. Named after French philosopher and mathematician Descartes’ Cartesian coordinate system, the foundation on which CAD software was built, this functional piece follows the shapes and curves of the mathematical approach in a three-dimensional form available in an array of colors.
My chair of choice would be a gold one, featuring a slightly textured pattern in the back that fades as it flows down—the perfect side chair for a living room or bedroom—or try mixing and matching colors around the dining table for a truly unique look.
