A three-season sun room features windows inset with retractable screens. The designer also incorporated leather-and-blackened-steel Lincoln lounge chairs by Miles & May Furniture Works in Geneva, New York.
Designer Nancy Green created a sun room in a space originally designated as a dining area. The sofa is covered in Duralee fabric, and the rattan chairs and ottoman are by Palecek, with the ottoman in a Peter Fasano print from John Rosselli & Associates. Cowtan & Tout. fabric fashions the window treatment, and mahogany flooring from C&M Wood Flooring Center runs underfoot. The landscape outside was installed by Land Designs by Steve.
LET IT ALL IN
The sun room allows light to flow in thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook a small pond. Classic and contemporary furnishings include hide chairs and a Gae Aulenti coffee table, all from Design Within Reach.
EQUIPPED FOR ENTERTAINING
A forged-iron chandelier from Casamidyin San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, is suspended from the sunroom’s white-oak ceiling. READY FOR ALL SEASONS
A bluestone-clad fireplace formed by 12-by-18-inch tiles is the centerpiece of the sunroom. The all-weather nautical-rope Rutherford sofa from RH is upholstered in a textured linen-weave Perennialsfabric. Cowhide chairs are from Jayson Home, as is the teardrop side table.
OFF TO THE SIDE
Situated off the living room, the sunroom features whimsical velvet and nickel lounge chairs by Lynne Scalo Design. A matching ottoman sports legs mimicking the pattern of the original marble floor.
An antique patchwork kilim grounds the sun room furnishings, including a sofa covered in Mokum fabric and a pair of woven chairs and ottoman from Janus et Cie. The Asian garden stool by Dennis & Leen is from Holly Hunt.
Designer Martin Horner purposely kept the color scheme in the sunroom neutral so that the focus would remain on the outside greenery, which was designed by Heller & Associates and installed by Earth Developments. A Restoration Hardware sofa dressed in Perennials fabric resides with Palecek chairs covered in a Romo textile. The white table is by Made Goods.
LOG CABIN WITH A TWIST
Lord Norman Foster’s Arc table for Molteni&C is underscored with an indoor-outdoor rug Kwinter-Schwartz designed and had made by Liora Manne. The furnishings, including the indoor-outdoor fixture by CL Sterling & Son, make the space so comfortable and compelling that it is used year-round.
Pitched ceilings and a wall of windows allow natural light to flood the sunroom. The chunky wool area rug from Floor Covering Resources features 4-inch brown leather banding with antique brass nailhead trim that was applied by hand.
The bright sunroom is a bit of a hybrid and can be left open to the outdoors or closed off from the elements at the homeowners’ will. The rattan lounge chairs by Palecek are covered in a cream Sister Parish linen; the circular woven abaca coffee table is by Made Goods. A pewter colored rug from Watson Smith runs underfoot.
Existing blue-and-white tiles set the palette for the light-filled sunroom, where pillows from Horchow echo the tone and rest on custom armchairs. Sheer draperies made with a fabric by Chella lend softness. The woven side table is from Mecox Gardens.
Cedar beams and custom Marlin windows were used to build the new sunroom, which was designed by architect Brett Baba and built by Matthew King. Inside, McKinley paired the owners’ Raleigh armchairs from Design Within Reach with fumed- oak-and-metal tables from Gulassa & Co. The basalt tile floor from Statements extends out to the patio.
