Kelly McDermott knows her kitchen design. As a Chicago-based member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s Thirty under 30 2020 class, she focuses on how to make a new home or renovation stunning, but also workable. “People want to maximize storage and flow in their kitchens, but they also want it to be beautiful and timeless,” she says. “Form and function are both important, since they’ll use their kitchen for years and years.” Here, McDermott reveals her favorite finds from the showrooms of LuxeHome, perfect for the kitchen.
Ann Sacks Idris By Ait Manos
This new collection of zellige tiles is handmade in Morocco. “It would make a lovely backsplash in a neutral shade,” McDermott says. “Or for a bold statement, use one of the mosaic patterns.” The look may be up-to-the-minute, but because it’s based on centuries-old design, it never reads as trendy.
Monogram 30″ Smart Hearth Oven
Designed as a seamless built-in, this pizza oven caught McDermott’s eye because it combines the power needed to bake pizza with sleek style. The fact that it can be used for roasting meats and veggies, as well as baking artisanal bread just adds to its usefulness.
Carlisle Wide Plank Floor Earthen Collection
With white oak flooring in high demand and low supply, Carlisle has introduced a line made of hickory that offers a more refined look than the wood’s usual rustic finish. Hickory is also a harder wood, so, as McDermott notes, it’s perfect for a kitchen that sees a lot of foot traffic.
Delta Glass Rinser
Do you need a glass rinser in your kitchen or bar? Maybe not, but it’s one small item that takes convenience to the next level. While long used in commercial kitchens, McDermott can see homeowners loving the ability to quickly rinse anything from baby bottles to fine stemware.
