Designers Sallyann Corn and Joe Kent bring an “obsession with honest materiality and appreciation of straightforward design” to Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square with their second Washington brick-and-mortar location (the other a four-hour drive away in Walla Walla), boasting a fresh, playful collection of American-made wares. The design duo behind fruitsuper, who also teach at Cornish College of the Arts, take Luxe on a tour of their latest endeavor.
Who’s behind fruitsuper? We met during our first Industrial Design college years and immediately recognized that our skill sets were complementary. We’ve been partners in business and life ever since.
Why brick-and-mortar? One of the first things we do in every city we visit is seek out stores filled with local wares and knowledgeable shopkeepers. Brick-and-mortar has the ability to create an experience that’s so much more personal than it is transactional.
Tell us about the storefront. We set out to design a space that would feel like an extension of someone’s home. From our earliest mood board to each and every fixture, the result is a cozy and bright space filled with collected treasures. From custom hand-thrown ceramic mugs to all-natural, Seattle-made tonic and letterpress collaborations, we’ve selected gifts we would give to our dearest friends.
