ARIZONA BIENNIAL

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Arizona Biennial, the state’s longest-running juried exhibition, hosted by the Tucson Museum of Art.

On display July 6 through September 16, the show features 84 pieces including video, sculpture, painting, works on paper, photography and installations by 70 artists around the state.

Among those on display are interpretations of the urban American West by Phoenix oil painter Laura Spalding Best, local photography by Flagsta ‘s Joe Cornett and dusky neighborhood scenes by Phoenix painter Cam Decaussin.

“The biennial collection shows contemporary art in Arizona is competitive with the rest of the nation in quality while reflecting our state’s unique sense of place and culture,” says Julie Sasse, the museum’s chief curator and curator of modern and contemporary art.
