A new chapter is about to unfold for the Henry Art Gallery, where Kris Lewis has been named the new John S. Behnke Director. An art world veteran, Lewis has nearly three decades of experience at world-class museums like The Whitney Museum of American Art and the Fowler Museum at UCLA.

“I have long been working toward this important role and am honored to lead the Henry, one of the most exciting spaces for contemporary art and ideas on the West Coast,” Lewis says. As the museum looks toward its 100th birthday in 2027, Lewis is keen to celebrate the Henry’s roots at the University of Washington and explore new possibilities for contemporary art production via Seattle’s connections to technology and innovation.

“With the talented individuals who make the Henry exceptional, I have no doubt we will propel the museum to new heights,” she adds.
