Paper artist Huntz Liu’s works mesmerize the eye. From his live-work studio in downtown L.A.’s Arts District, Liu, who grew up in Monterey Park, creates layered, hand-cut paper compositions in striking geometric designs.

Each work is a celebration of color, pattern, light and shadow, and what he calls “exploring the collision between imaginary space and real space.”

With a solo show currently on view in Taiwan (“I was born in Taipei, so it’s a homecoming of sorts,” he says) the artist’s April calendar also includes a group show titled “A Better Tomorrow” at Thinkspace Projects in L.A.’s West Adams District, as well as the San Francisco Art Fair, where he will be showing a selection of new works with New York gallery Harman Projects.

“My process is time intensive, but there’s a meditative aspect and a calming quality to it that offset the meticulous nature of the work,” Liu reflects.
