BLACK CREATIVITY JURIED ART EXHIBITION

Opened on January 16, 2023, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) is the longest continuously running showcase of African American art in the United States. That’s over 50 years of celebrating Black artists and creators.

“The Juried Art Exhibition is at the heart of MSI’s Black Creativity program,” says Deputy Director of Communications and Engagement Peter Vega. “It’s part of our mission to celebrate the contributions of pioneers in the arts, science and technology.”

This year’s exhibition includes more than 100 works by professional artists from across the nation, including a healthy selection of Chicagolandbased creatives. While the program has grown since its inception in 1970 when it was organized by local artists and staffers of the African American newspaper Chicago Defender, it remains true to its mission to present and celebrate beautiful art made by Black creators.
