contemporary corner office in living...

Designer Summer Thornton, along with design associate Whitney Mersman, transformed a corner of a Lincoln Park living room into a home office with Serena & Lily's Beckett desk and Casamidy's Varenne chair, which is upholstered in Muriel Brandolini fabric. A vintage watercolor--a flea market find--gives the setting a midcentury vibe.

Throughout the home, Thornton incorporated a vivid palette, bold patterns and unique furnishings, as evidenced in the living room. Here, she paired Holland & Sherry's Honeoye wallcovering and a one-of-a-kind rug from ABC Carpet & Home's Color Reform collection with metallic pieces such as Casamidy's Hiver chair and a vintage coffee table from Darren Ransdell Design in Los Angeles.

Chicago homeowners Mark and Isabelle Lane didn’t want to hit pause before completing the design of their new Lincoln Park abode.

So they tapped interior designer Summer Thornton — whose unconventional, quirky style piqued their interest — to help them achieve a clean-lined, modern look before the big move-in day.

Embracing a mix of spirited hues, gutsy fixtures and bold wall coverings, Thorton approached each room with dynamic pieces and an audacious color palette.

She decorated the living room with dazzling metallic furnishings, fitted with soft grays and greens; transformed the dining room with seafoam blue lacquered walls that highlight the silver-leafed ceiling; and styled the outdoor deck with vibrant hues and an azure umbrella.

The splashy color theme also extended to the master suite, where the design team covered the walls in a dark mauve, complemented by navy- and cream-accented furniture. The daughter’s room features a hot-pink-and-peacock-blue wall pattern, along with a solid lilac color that extends to and covers the ceiling.

The resulting kicky yet elegant aesthetic was one that dazzled the couple.

“Summer not only helped me narrow down what I liked,” Lane says, “but she also pushed me to take risks.”
