Indulge At This Bistro Bringing A Modern Parisian Twist To Chicago

Curved banquettes and round tables create seating backed by pink walls and pink-and-white tiles

A stylish Parisian bistro graces Fulton Market with energy and strikingly French modern decor. Coquette, by Bonhomme Hospitality, combines inspiration from fashion house YSL and artist Piet Mondrian with a wild dash of fantasy and fun.

“For me, pink is a color of strength and flirtatiousness,” says Daniel Alonso, founder, creative director and CEO of Bonhomme Group and Maison Bonhomme, its design arm. “I was playing with a Postmodern feeling with these colors and shapes.” In planning the 40-seat restaurant, Alonso worked with culinary director Erwin Mallet and the team at sister restaurant Porto to envision an updated Parisian bistro’s food, drink and atmosphere.

“The cuisine and cocktails start the story,” Alonso says. “That gave me an idea of how to bring the room alive.” Alonso worked with an all-star cast of vendors, including Marrakesh-based Popham Design for cement and zellige tiles; Murano glassmaker Sogni Di Cristallo for dramatic chandeliers; and Piero Lissoni for Viccarbe for sofas and dining chairs.
