WHO: Ellen Hanson is an esteemed interior designer working on projects across the country. As founder of Ellen Hanson Designs, she works with a small team of talented professionals who have a special interest in sustainability, heirloom-quality craftsmanship, honesty of materials and spectacular art installations. Their group DNA is based in mutual respect, curiosity and flexibility.

WHAT: Hanson has a deep appreciation for the crafting process and is committed to bringing beauty and function into daily life. Pieces by many of her favorite makers—emerging global artisans, local Gulf Coast artists and textile designers—are featured at her shop, Pansy Bayou, in the Burns Court area of Sarasota. The store offers a wide range of home goods, including artisanal rugs, vintage furnishings, unusual lighting and hostess gifts.

WHY: The designer pulls from her experience and intuition to conceptualize the potential for any space to become a unique expression of the needs and goals of the client.

IN HER WORDS: “I am focused on creating interiors that are luxurious, sustainable, local, essential and durable. When I arrived in Sarasota, I wanted to bring some of my favorite finishing touches and make them available to other designers and the community at large.”
