What Inspired Fabricut’s Foray Into Furniture

Details

A fabric house with a storied past makes its foray into furniture. Fabricut Creative Director Jodi Finer shares her vision and describes how heritage plays a defining role.

From fabric to furniture…what made you move in this direction?

Our intent was to provide not only more and better products, but also an online experience that aligns with what is happening in the marketplace today. Looking at our industry, and beyond to the world of fashion, art and architecture led us to traditional and transitional pieces with clean lines and unique details. For example, the smallest addition of a playful curve on an arm of a chair can slightly modernize a piece.

The furniture is all about options!

It runs the gamut from sofas to dining chairs to upholstered beds and headboards. With more than 10,000 upholstery fabric choices, plus the ability to choose from six wood finishes, two metal options and a variety of shapes, sizes and depths, these staples provide a strong foundation. But what remains true to our core as a heritage, family-owned brand are the high-quality standards we abide by–each item is handcrafted in High Point, North Carolina, with the utmost attention to detail.

Explain the meaning behind some of the names, such as the Harvey and Webster chairs.

The names reflect people, personalities and personal items that have made a mark in our firm and influenced us to look toward the future through a lens of creativity and passion. Harvey Nudelman was our past president who worked with my grandfather, father and me. As a leader and sales person, he left an indelible legacy on our company. And the Webster Track Arm Chair (shown right) is personally inspired by the dictionary. As a child, I was fascinated by the root origins of words, so I’d sit for hours in our living room rummaging through the dictionary and quizzing family members.

Do you have a favorite piece?

If I had to pick one, it would be the Helga Lounge Chair–a traditional name that reminded me of the furniture business my grandfather owned in Germany before he immigrated to the United States prior to World War II. While the chair’s lines feel more contemporary, it is a smaller scale piece that brings dimensionality to a space and works in every room.

What does luxury mean to you?

Luxury means the freedom to choose: to be who you want to be and to decide what you surround yourself and live with in your life.
