Furniture designer Todd Hewitt, who honed his vision working with such innovative firms as Lawson-Fenning and Henrybuilt, has launched his own studio, Last Ditch Design.

Handmade in Los Angeles, the collection includes beds, seating, storage, tables, desks and decorative objects—with new designs launching later this year.

“I take a minimalist approach to my work: simple, sculptural forms and natural elements,” Hewitt explains. “Crafting from my own unique perspective, I’m interested in using the warmth of materials, their texture and shadows, rather than ornamentation.”

With a focus on sustainability, he only uses ethically sourced lumber and has partnered with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit which plants a tree for every sale. “Legacy is very important to me, and these pieces are designed and built to be lived with for generations,” he continues, noting that he also does custom fabrication. “Quality and function first, aesthetics second—but I also want my designs to spark joy.”
