Rather than incorporating typical checkbox items, architect Jess Field of Field Architecture encourages clients to “tune in to what makes the little moments of every day amazing.”
When a couple yearning for greater outdoor access came to him to create their new home in Los Altos Hills, Field imagined an indoor-outdoor space that would act as a nexus for daily activities.
Doors slide open and pocket away, creating a direct connection to nature, while well-placed slats protect against the low west sun. “You can hear the sounds of the creek and wildlife,” Field says. “It’s like a symphony of nature at night.”
