Field Architecture Los Altos Hills residence

When a couple yearning for greater outdoor access came to him to create their new home in Los Altos Hills, Jess Field imagined an indoor-outdoor hub with doors that disappear completely.

Rather than incorporating typical checkbox items, architect Jess Field of Field Architecture encourages clients to “tune in to what makes the little moments of every day amazing.”

When a couple yearning for greater outdoor access came to him to create their new home in Los Altos Hills, Field imagined an indoor-outdoor space that would act as a nexus for daily activities.

Doors slide open and pocket away, creating a direct connection to nature, while well-placed slats protect against the low west sun. “You can hear the sounds of the creek and wildlife,” Field says. “It’s like a symphony of nature at night.”
