On the heels of launching her handmade tableware collection with revered Mexican potter Gorky Gonzalez—a line of colorful earthenware dishes—Luxe talks to Pacific Palisades-based designer, author and vintner Caren Rideau (who co-runs boutique winery Tierra Y Vino in the Santa Ynez Valley) about every foodie’s favorite space.

What are the hallmarks of a Caren Rideau-designed kitchen? They’re simple and timeless, but I love incorporating unique cabinet details and custom hoods so that every kitchen feels special.

What are your clients asking for now? We’re adding sculleries or back kitchens to a lot of designs, as well as steam ovens for a healthier way of cooking, and juice or wellness bars. 

If you had to pick your one must-have kitchen item, it would be… As much as I enjoy cooking and using a lot of different kitchen tools, a wine bottle opener and my molcajete for making fresh salsas and guacamole are a must.
