Originally from California, the figurative painter expands on the process behind her lively works exclusively featuring Black women. Incorporating themes like pattern, texture and fashion, Haynes depicts her subjects in colorful spaces to explore the narrative behind who these figures are—and what they do—behind closed doors, where they are free to be themselves. “I’m interested in the idea of how color shapes womanhood,” she explains.
