Lauren Snyder’s The Primary Essentials is true to its name; the high-end, refined and forward-thinking homewares line is so well-curated that you’ll feel as if every item in the collection is essential.

This fall, after four years in business, Snyder is taking her gorgeous home goods to Nolita, where she’ll open her second location of The Primary Essentials.

“I felt that a special home store was missing from the city, and it was very natural for me to want to be downtown,” explains Snyder, who opened her first location in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. “I love Nolita because it still has a quaint feeling to it but we are so close to all of the busy shopping areas. The block being a single street [makes it] so low key.”

The new outpost will open Oct. 4, in tandem with the launch of TPE’s in-house home accessories line.

Snyder is taking her curation skills to the next level with this new collection, selecting top-notch manufacturers in Brooklyn; Oaxaca, Mexico; Marrakesh, Morocco; and India. The goal is to respect and preserve the heritage of the crafts she delivers in her boutique.

“Traveling is always a great inspiration for me. I am always looking for something that I feel can find a way into someone’s life. It is important to me also that it is functional, but also unique, and made with integrity,” she says.

“We tend to work with a lot of smaller designers and artisans because the objects just feel so much more special because by nature they can’t be mass produced. So many of the items are one of a kind and that is something that is really vital to the brand.”

Since opening TPE’s first location in 2013, Snyder has developed and expanded her offerings to present a more well-rounded and complete selection of handmade, delicate pieces that offer an effortless refinement to customers tablescapes and living spaces.
