Self-taught wood builder Rene Cervantes started his business 12 years ago doing side jobs in the afternoons and nights after his regular job. “I started from very rough and humble beginnings when I agreed to do my first project,” he says. “At that time, I didn’t have the tools, and I didn’t have a shop or a truck.” He also knew his business required different talents; not just building products. So, as Cervantes kept growing in the business and meeting new clients, he began to develop a design sensibility that would help him to better communicate with his clients and also express his creative point of view. Learning different skills and business roles has resulted in Cervantes providing a better finished product.
