Creating buildings that are centered upon clarity and simplicity is a fundamental goal of Shepherd Resources, Inc/AIA, one of the leading architectural design practices in the Rocky Mountain region. “The most beautiful, enduring solutions are the simplest,” says Charlotte DeChant, the firm’s founding partner. Founded 27 years ago, Shepherd Resources has worked on resort and residential projects that range from golf and tennis clubs to working ranches and rich, modern mountain homes.
The practice creates architecture that is an integrated and authentic reflection of the location and the people it serves. “Our creativity results from listening and exploring,” explains principal Douglas DeChant. “We listen to the client and to the land. We gather as a studio to explore. We enjoy creative dialogue and watching amazing solutions emerge.”
Shepherd Resources’ work evolves in response to its specific context, drawing influence from local materials and the environs of the site. The firm’s clients include resort properties such as Country Club of the Rockies in Arrowhead at Vail; Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club in Wyoming; and Frost Creek Mountain Club in Eagle, Colorado. Additionally, the firm has created numerous significant residences, both new construction and renovations, throughout Colorado and North America. Common to each project are solutions that are engaging, imaginative, progressive and enduring.
“We are influenced by our clients and what we hear from the land. From this dialogue, a fresh language evolves for each project.” – Douglas and Charlotte DeChant
We are joyfully celebrating over 25 years of architecture – collaboration, creativity and detail. Our studio is an inspiring, highly creative setting, staffed by visionary, experienced leaders and the very best, technologically-savvy interns. We are small, to be responsive to our clients and projects, yet our creativity, experience and capabilities are considerable. We listen intently…, to our clients and the site…, and enjoy creating with engaged clients on remarkable properties, wherever they may be.”
From Vail/Beaver Creek, we’ve reached across the mountains to Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Jackson Hole and Bozeman, as well as Denver and Colorado Springs. Beyond the mountains, our projects reside in Boston, Sturgeon Bay, Edmonton, Houston, Kansas City, Nantucket, Atlanta and Dallas.
