It’s that time of the year, folks: Paint brands are predicting the next big color trends, and Sherwin-Williams is the latest to divulge its au courant hue.

With a return to a classic, the brand on Monday unveiled Naval SW 6244 as its Color of the Year pick. The timeless, bold shade not only complements an assortment of tones, it’s universally applicable to varying interior styles and spaces — an opulent entryway, a punchy powder room, or a statement kitchen, to name a few.

Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing, points to the trends in wellness as inspiration for the selection. “People want to feel grounded and inspired to pursue their mental, physical and emotional well-being,” says Wadden. “Naval is reminiscent of the night sky, which people have looked to for centuries for guidance, as a muse and as a reminder to live more mindfully.”

2020 marks the company’s 10th straight Color of the Year announcement. Its predictions for the next decade? “It’s going to be bold,” says Wadden. “We’ll continue to move away from omnipresent neutrals and design will feel more personal again.”
