Behind The Seating Sanctuary By Portland Design Mavens

Amongst the bakeries and art galleries on Portland’s Northwest Ninth Avenue is Sitte Modern, a showroom dedicated to chairs. Piles of Moroccan poufs inhabit a corner opposite a suspended teepee lounger and a double-decker wall of sleek occasional seats. A delicate wooden whale sculpture hangs from the ceiling.

Amid all this are Allison Kramer and Sasha Goldstein of Sitte Modern and SMG Collective, respectively. The design mavens recently merged their businesses, meaning the Pearl District showroom has expanded its offerings and has become a one-stop shop for the contemporary home.

Endless creative seating options are available, and Kramer and Goldstein will help you craft a stylish look around them–from rugs and tables to art and glassware. Amusing wallcoverings from Juju Papers and Makelike can be incorporated too. And if Goldstein’s rugs happen to look familiar, perhaps it’s because they’re on the floors and even the walls of many Portland residential buildings like the Cosmopolitan, the Yard and Vista North Pearl.

“I treat rugs like art,” she says. “They’re very custom.” And soon your interior could be too.
