Snow Peak’s Flagship In Portland Is Design-Centric Inside And Out

Details

Even though it was crafted around the invitation “Let’s dwell outdoors, together,” the new Snow Peak USA flagship and headquarters in Portland didn’t take the design of its interiors for granted. With an eye toward community-building and incorporating both Japanese and Pacific Northwest influences throughout, the company tapped Skylab Architecture to transform a 1980s four-story building into an inviting multifunction venue: office, event and retail space, a showroom, a restaurant and outdoor areas. Snow Peak’s core belief in “nature’s ability to heal and restore humanity,” according to brand founder Yukio Yamai (a hand-painted mural of whom greets visitors upon arrival, above), is evident from the materials used, including Douglas-fir beams milled and stacked into a modern retail fixture system that nods to traditional Japanese building methods. snowpeak.com
