Innovation is, and always has been, the hallmark of Lloyd Flanders. The outdoor furniture leader made its mark more than a century ago with its revolutionary all-weather wicker, Lloyd Loom. Ever since, improvements in materials, processes, finishes, design and seating have evolved the company’s offerings from traditional to more contemporary in feel.

Today, Lloyd Flanders introduces several new collections of modern furniture that speak to the company’s past, while embracing its future. First, we take a look back at how it all began.

A Stitch In Time

In 1906, Marshall Lloyd founded the Lloyd Manufacturing Co in Menominee, Michigan, quickly becoming famous for its wicker baby buggies and children’s wicker furniture. In 1917, he revolutionized the industry with his Lloyd Loom, a unique process for creating fine woven furniture that could replace the work of 30 men.

In 1921, the Heywood-Wakefield Company purchased Lloyd Manufacturing, introducing more wicker furniture lines and increasing the popularity of Lloyd Loom wicker throughout the U.S. and Canada. World War II shifted the company’s focus to the manufacturing of items to support the war effort.

Fast forward, and in 1982, Flanders Industries of Fort Smith, Arkansas, purchased the Lloyd Looms and the Lloyd Company facilities from Heywood-Wakefield—forming Lloyd Flanders and establishing a game-changing new category of outdoor furniture.

As the all-weather wicker category grew, Lloyd Flanders added to its material mix with furniture made from woven vinyl and FSC-certified teak. Likewise, the company broadened its stylistic scope, rounding out its traditional portfolio with contemporary pieces.

A Well-Woven Future

For 2021, Lloyd Flanders intertwines great design, craftsmanship and lifelong durability in its four new modern collections: Essence, Fairview, Visions and Elevation.

With the Essence Collection, tradition meets modernity, featuring plush waterfall seat cushions and a moderate scale that capture an effortless, retro look. The sky is truly the limit with the Fairview Collection, a streamlined design that fits in any outdoor setting or style. The Visions Collection is an innovation in Lloyd Loom® wicker, with clean lines, moderate scale seating and cushioned inset panels. Lastly, the Elevation Collection transforms any space into a chic respite. Its woven light-gray rope, stainless-steel frame and teak arm accents come together for a beautiful, airy silhouette. To create a look all your own, the Essence, Visions and Fairview collections come in 20 custom finishes.

Many Lloyd Flanders’ classics have been updated as well, with the addition of a new adjustable pool chaise to the Mackinac Collection; the Reflections Collection’s new padded loom seat panels that allow moisture to drain quickly; and five new Universal accessory pieces that offer a table solution for any Lloyd Flanders® Collection.

With two showrooms—in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart and in High Point—and distribution to over 2,000 retail outlets and through a network of interior designers and independent sales representatives across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean—Lloyd Flanders continues to weave its way into the hearts of homeowners, near and far.
