The 78 in Chicago

A new mixed-use development will occupy the largest parcel of undeveloped land left in downtown Chicago.

Christened The 78 to mark its place sequentially as the newest neighborhood in the Windy City, the 62-acre community will include residences, boutique retail, restaurants, cultural institutions and office space as well as parks, bicycle lanes, walking paths and waterfront access along the river.

“A diversity of architecture and mix of materials will make the community feel like a part of downtown,” says architect Ann Thompson, senior vice president of Related Midwest, who worked on the project in conjunction with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. “It will feel authentic and organic but not too prescribed.”
