A Moment Of Appreciation For The Glam Restoration Of Chicago’s Old Post Office

Serving as Chicago’s main mail facility for more than 60 years, The Old Post Office has undergone an $800 million restoration by Gensler Chicago that encompasses the façade, main lobby and its historic corridors.

After sitting vacant for almost two decades, the building now boasts a marble and gold mosaic-filled lobby, 4-acre rooftop park and office tenant amenities such as a fitness center, library and food hall.

“The sense of history and commitment to preservation are evident,” says Gensler principal Sheryl Schulze. “The original spiral mail chutes, postal scales, security walkways and green mosaic tile floors were all retained to pay homage to its past while looking forward to its future.”
