One of Colorado’s last remaining wood-frame hotels began a new chapter as The Western hotel and spa, a 16-room gem in the heart of Ouray’s historic district.

Originally built in 1891, the structure retained many of its mining-era details. These include its original front desk and hand-carved bar, an early-20th-century floor mural, stained-glass windows, tin ceilings and hand-painted wallpaper—which Denver-based Zeppelin Development and Dynia Architects painstakingly preserved during a two-year renovation.

Now reimagined as a sophisticated, European-style lodging with myriad amenities such as a restaurant, general store and Nordic spa, the property features a palette of dark woods, rich leathers, and hues inspired by the dramatic landscape outside.
