Where In The World Designer Elizabeth Scott Gets Style Inspiration

From running her eponymous residential design company in Lake Forest, Illinois, to collaborating with Hamilton Sinkler on cabinetry hardware, designing hand-carved fireplace surrounds with Atelier Jouvence and her latest project—a line of wood tables under a new brand called Margot Scott last fall—Elizabeth Scott wears many hats. It’s no wonder she turns to travel to continually inspire her work. Here, she shares with Luxe three places that invigorate her style. escottdesigngroup.com

MEXICO CITY

“I went for the first time last year when a furniture brand I love, Alfonso Marina, invited me to tour their factory. It’s such a beautiful architectural town. I’m always looking at details wherever I go. This fabulous Alfonso Marina armoire and bench are made by hand in Mexico City. Their pieces always make such a statement—they are so beautiful and unique in person. The armoire is handmade with 1,200 pieces.”

 HONG KONG

“One of my favorite temples is the Temple of Heaven, which is perfectly round—the detail is so exquisite. I love to go to Stanley Market for really unique finds, like Ming Dynasty porcelain. In this study, to the right of the fireplace is a Chinese rice basket and the two tall stamps on the mantle are from Bali, where they’re used to imprint a pattern on fabrics.”

 BALI

“This is my favorite place in the world! There is nothing here that is not breathtaking. In every house, I always add a little bit of Asia, whether it’s a piece of porcelain or a tapestry across a console table. In one of the bedrooms, we used blue and white porcelain jars and boxes to accent the art above the bed.”
