Joey Wolffer discusses the new vibe at the Wolffer Estate, a beloved vineyard in the Hamptons.

Why a renovation?

The original tasting room was the vision of my father, and the old-world charm that you found there reflected his European heritage. When my brother, Marc, and I took over, we wanted the winery to reflect our own design aesthetic–a comfortable but stylish space yet one that still honors our father’s heritage.

What were some of the more important modifications?

We changed the floors from Spanish terra cotta to all wood. Also, two long high-top tables with family seating and two leather banquettes were installed, as well as a wall of windows offering expanded views of the vines. My personal favorite is a “family room” area with leather chairs, rugs, throws and family photos. All of these touches create the sense that you’re in our family’s living room.

How is the new space more in line with the vision you have for Wolffer?

What I’m focused on is infusing a more youthful voice, even a whimsical lifestyle, through design and art.

The Wolffer Estate Vineyard is located at 139 Sagg Road in Sagaponack, New York; 631.537.5106.
