A Corona Del Mar Abode Is Modernized For A Family

When a mother of young twins decided to look for a new home, she set her sights on California neighborhoods that would be best suited for her children. After finding a Corona del Mar house on a quiet cul-de-sac with an unusually large backyard, she knew it was the one.

While the location was ideal, the existing house–built in 1969–was anything but. To create a more sophisticated and contemporary space, the owner turned to architect Christian R. Light and builders Don McKeehan and Dick McKeehan, who reorganized the flow of the home and created a more comfortable floor plan.

For the interiors, the homeowner called on designer Brooke Wagner, who sourced everything from exterior stone cladding to bathroom hand towels. The designer also pulled materials from her own library, adding luxury elements from such showrooms as Kneedler-Fauchere and Thomas Lavin to the grown-up spaces, and more youthful pieces from Serena & Lily and Anthropologie to the kids’ rooms. “The result is cohesive, low maintenance and refined,” she says.

“It’s amazing,” says the homeowner of the newly finished house. “I wanted fancy and trendy–and that’s exactly what Brooke did.”
