In this Hawaiian bathroom sanctuary, designer Nicole Hollis brought in color, textures and surfaces from the outside, giving the space a deep connection to the land.
There are few more obvious examples of indoor-outdoor design than this Kona, Hawaii, bathroom by San Francisco-based designer Nicole Hollis. “We wanted to avoid literalism while exploring the theme of locality,” she says. “You won’t find palm-frond designs, wicker or ukuleles in this space.” Instead, Hollis employs elements like an open-plan scheme, varying natural wood tones and a sleek vanity to reinforce the outdoor connection. “The home reflects what Hawaii means to the client,” she says. “They relax here, entertain and celebrate being together and living in the outdoors.”
