Check In: AKA Times Square
Space is a luxury in New York City, something a hotel in the heart of Manhattan’s busiest neighborhood decided to focus on when undergoing a partial redesign.
AKA Times Square tasked in-house designer Nicholas Cardone, as well as historic preservationist and architect Stephan Potts of Philadelphia’s Stanev Potts Architects, with reinvigorating its most spacious rooms: the 12 penthouse suites. Unveiled this summer, each gives a proverbial hat tip to the building’s turn-of-the-century past through architectural details such as exposed structural features and unique layouts and windows.
The crown jewel is the Penthouse Residence, a two-bedroom duplex outfitted with a gourmet kitchen, an iron staircase, beds dressed in Sferra linens and, the most brag-worthy aspect, a 200-square-foot, spa-like bathroom clad in Carrara marble with a freestanding soaking tub. It’s the type of spacious real estate that would make any New Yorker want to move in for good.
