Carefully Curated Items Yield Casual Elegance In Arizona

traditional exterior entr

For this Paradise Valley, Arizona, home, interior designer Lissa Lee Hickman was all about mixing styles: relaxed meets refined, functional meets formal.

In the living room, neutral linens and a mix of patterned blue fabrics help create a cool oasis, while a custom armoire inspired by an antique houses her clients’ family heirlooms. Light fixtures here and in the entry nod to a modern French farmhouse style that’s incorporated into other elements — such as a chandelier and hand-carved credenza — found throughout the home.

In the formal dining room, upholstered seating and a white oak trestle table handle the functionality with aplomb, but it’s the hand carved gold leaf mirror that is the piece de resistance.

As Hickman explains, “The furnishings are timeless and approachable, but the mirror provides the wow.”

Outside, the dwelling’s quiet palette continues with all-weather wicker furnishings that complement the interior design.

“We made sure the main indoor-furniture colors transitioned gracefully into the outdoor areas, harmoniously connecting them,” Hickman says.
