The most bewitching homes mirror their settings through a considered interplay of art and nature. For a new residence at the foot of Arizona’s Superstition Mountains, Oz Architects had a particularly majestic muse to channel, and the team responded with a sleek, ranch-inspired structure that lives as one with its dramatic environs. Crucial to celebrating the site’s essence is a design throughline of perforated steel panels that transform exterior spaces into ever-shifting canvases painted by light and shade. Concepted by the client and realized by the architects, said panels depict a wave pattern and pivot with the wind, dampening breezes and creating a dappled tableau as tribute to the desert’s signature wash of ethereal sunshine.

Oz Architects, Montara Custom Homes and The Green Room Landscape Architecture came together to erect this Gold Canyon, Arizona, home. Accent Design & Manufacturing fabricated the perforated steel panels.
