Refined Blue Bedrooms That Beckon A Sense Of Serenity
Channel feelings of calm and serenity with inspiration from these restful blue bedrooms.
Pastel Glamour
Soft blue tones weave throughout the master bedroom, from the custom bed upholstered in Jane Churchill fabric holding accent pillows in a floral-patterned fabric by Romo to the Oushak rug from Interior Resources.
Elegant Victorian Revamp
“The master bedroom is all about textures,” says designer Paige Loczi, noting how the modern Donghia wallcovering, silk Madelin Weinrib rug, Patricia Urquiola bed and the Moooi overhead lighting work with the room’s classic moldings.
Beachside Refinery
A serene space that is luxurious to the touch, the master bedroom features custom Coraggio drapes and a Venice Arte blown glass chandelier. Flanked by a set of Lorin Marsh lacquered chests, the Hutton Collections bed sports a toile-like fabric by Holly Hunt. The bench is Marc Bankowsky via Maison Gerard and the carpet is a custom wool and silk confection by Edward Fields.
Tropical Relaxation
The palette of the children’s bedroom, decked in Benjamin Moore Breath of Fresh Air, was inspired by the commissioned Idoline Duke artwork. The linen covering the headboard of Oly Studio’s Helena bed, dressed in Matouk linens, and the rug are Elizabeth Eakins. Vaughan’s Southwick lamp rests on Bunny Williams Home’s Inge side.
Zen Spirit
A custom white-oak bed and nightstand, both by Maria Yee, stand in a guest room that functions as a second master suite. Bedside lighting comes from a lamp by Visual Comfort & Co. The linen duvet and the throw are by Annie Selke. Benjamin Moore’s Normandy on the walls fosters a serene spirit.
Aquatic Atmosphere
Shades of blue flow through the home’s public and private spaces. Designer Billy Ceglia picked an aqua hue for this guest bedroom, exemplified by the jute Phillip Jeffries wallcovering. Missoni Home pillows accent the Ralph Lauren Home bed. The lacquered raffia chest is by Made Goods; the Visual Comfort & Co. lamp atop it is from Circa Lighting.
Idyllic Refresh
Benjamin Moore’s Sea Pine connects the main bedroom walls to the lake visible outside, while the custom iron four-poster bed doesn’t obscure the view. Rounding out the space are Fabricut draperies, a leather bench by Vanguard Furniture and Thibaut armchairs upholstered with Donghia performance fabric.
Seacoast Influence
Matouk bedding dresses the master bed, which has a headboard upholstered in a Cowtan & Tout fabric. The nightstands, holding lamps from Mecox, and dresser are Pottery Barn. A synthetic sisal Couristan rug grounds the room, and draperies made of a Calico Corners linen frame the door to the exterior. The wall artwork and table beneath are family heirlooms.
Patterned Paradise
For calming effect, designer Brittany Bromley chose a custom high-gloss pale blue paint in the main bedroom. Antique French chests flank the bed upholstered in a Thibaut chinoiserie fabric that coordinates with the drapes. An ottoman covered in a Brunschwig and Fils zebra print with Samuel & Sons trim creates a sumptuous reading spot. The antique chandelier is from Bromley’s Bedford shop, Brittany Bromley Home.
Miami Modern
A 1950s Stilnovo chandelier presides over a 1960s A.J. Iverson settee in the main bedroom. The Grafton Furniture bed and all the pillows wear Holly Hunt fabrics. Sklo pendants hang in front of Bower Studios mirrors against Holland & Sherry’s Traquair wallcovering. Astro wall sconces perch above Carbonell Design Studio nightstands. A Woven rug grounds the space.
Peaceful Palette
To differentiate the master bedroom from the rest of the house, designer David Oldroyd upholstered the walls in a sky blue linen fabric by Custom Weave. The lounge chair is by Craft Associates and the vintage Oushak rug is from Stark. The art, Kiruna #2, is by Ronnie Genotti.
Italian Hideaway
Overlooking the pool, the master bedroom walls are covered in a tone of robin’s-egg blue bringing the outdoors into the sleeping quarters. The antique bergere chair from Kakar House of Design wears fabric matching the walls. The sconce on the bed wall is antique metal, and its counterpart on the opposite side is composed of antique French crystals.
Floral Dream
A Persian rug from Pasargad Carpets crafts a vibrant base for a guest bedroom, which is offset by walls painted Benjamin Moore’s Yarmouth Blue and cream silk drapes. Hand-painted designs by artist D.J. Schmidt on the vintage headboard tie to the ornate Aerin for Visual Comfort & Co. chandelier.
Lulling Nook
“The clients wanted a calm space in the master bedroom,” explains designer Heide Hendricks, who strayed from a predominantly white palette by painting the walls Farrow & Ball’s Light Blue. The dynamic hue, she says, “makes the room more interesting by framing the river outside.” This sweet window nook features a Perennials fabric on the bench cushion paired with panels of Schumacher’s sheer Boboli embroidery for privacy.
Ethereal Enchantment
Serena & Lily’s Balboa bed and Trestle side table add texture in a bedroom painted Benjamin Moore Sweet Bluette. Designer Courtney Davis used Ferrick Mason textiles on the pillow, the sconce’s shade and the bed skirt. Kayce Hughes artwork lines the wall, while carpeting from Barnards Carpet One Floor & Home grounds the room.
Lakeside Tranquility
“Perched in the trees, this bedroom has remarkable views of Lake Michigan and was the inspiration for the color palette,” says designer Bruce Fox. He coated the walls in Farrow & Ball’s Light Blue No. 22 and the ceilings and trim with Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White. The Revival Home chair and ottoman upholstered in a Cowtan & Tout fabric provide a perfect place to enjoy the vistas.
Monochromatic Whimsy
Chloe the dog lounges on a rug from Jamal’s Rug Collection in the master bedroom. Designer John De Bastiani wove in a variety of blue hues. He upholstered the RH bed’s headboard in a patchwork of fabric and dressed it with a coverlet in hand-stitched John Robshaw fabric. The 19th-century settee at the foot of the bed is upholstered in Ralph Lauren Home fabric. The walls and ceiling are covered in China Seas wallpaper from Quadrille. Draperies in a Pindler fabric hang at the windows.
Pastoral Comfort
A pastoral palette in the master bedroom creates a feeling of serenity, with Benjamin Moore’s cool gray-green Subway Tile on the walls and ocean-blue Opuzen mohair on the Hickory Chair bed. Throw pillows are covered in a linen print from Veere Grenney, a hand similar to the Perennials fabric on the RH slipper chair. The rustic cricket table is by Paul Ferrante.
