A Chicago Greystone Gets A Unifying Redesign
In the living room of this Chicago greystone, designer SuzAnn Kletzien mixed colors and textures, such as the blue Safavieh rug from One Kings Lane, the black custom club chairs with hide backs from Edelman and the custom sofa Eli-Wyn Upholstery covered in gold fabric from Fabricut.
The task: Honor the historic details of a multi-unit Chicago greystone in Logan Square while changing just about everything about it.
Designer SuzAnn Kletzien was up for the challenge, and together with general contractors Marlin and Michael Olson and architect Dan Miller, the team transformed the space for owner Greg Meyering and his children.
Accommodating his expanding family was a priority, as was a more contemporary layout for entertaining and relaxing.
The renovation involved converting the dwelling into a single-family residence, opening the layout of the first floor, rearranging the bedrooms and replacing extensive millwork.
Kletzien’s design for the interiors, meanwhile, incorporated traditional elements that surprise. Trusting the professional’s signature look, the client gave her free rein with the furnishings.
“I wanted a good mix of cool and warm, masculine and feminine,” she says.
