CI Design + Build helps people live better lives within their homes. Of course, the Chicago-based company offers all the services you’d expect from a luxury design firm, like thoughtful space planning, custom furnishings and curated art. But with a focus on health and wellness, CI Design + Build also helps clients ensure they are getting the best possible drinking water and air quality in their homes. “We design systems to support this,” says senior designer Kelly Adamczyk. “We have these same values within our studio and aim for a better, more balanced physical and mental health experience at work that we carry over to our clients.” Read on for Adamczyk’s perspective on designing healthier homes.

Why are clients incorporating wellness features into their residences?

Wellness has always been an inherent part of good design, but today’s homeowners are paying closer attention. They are embracing elements like natural sunlight, purified air and filtered water. With so many wellness-focused products now readily available, people can easily create personal retreats within their own homes. Investing in health has become a lifestyle choice, an intentional way of living that reflects our collective evolution and growing awareness of how our environments shape our well-being.

Can you share popular wellness features you recommend?

Air purification, water filtration and spa-like water features within showers. Also, heated floors in bathrooms—it’s a little luxury with a surprisingly small price tag.

What are some new trends in wellness design?

Circadian lighting and home automation are increasingly sought after. They allow lights, music and window treatments to work at the touch of a button. Even a simple system can have a remarkable impact on daily living.
