A Connecticut Trio Create Custom Nontoxic Furniture

Instead of searching for classic furniture for health-conscious clients, a Connecticut trio decided to make their own. Designer Emily C. Butler partnered with carpenters and brothers Ziggy Brodowski and Tom Brodowski to launch Ziggy, a brand of hardwood furniture with nontoxic paints and finishes. “We created the Ziggy line to present customizable, safe solutions to a broader audience,” Butler says. “There’s so little out there to choose from, we wanted to help solve that problem.” Butler designs each piece, which the brothers handcraft, allowing the team to “keep an eye on the process from start to finish,” she says. For a touch of Big Apple style, each item is named after a street in New York, from the Hudson dresser to the Carroll sideboard (shown).
