An East Village Garden Home Brings In Petal Pinks

Estee Lauder executive Shana Randhava found her ideal home in a garden-level co-op in the historic St. Mark’s area of New York City’s East Village.

And when it came time to sprucing up the space — which happened to be the former home of actress Chloe Sevigny — she enlisted help from California designer Lauren Geremia.

It was a decision that would see the transformation of the two-bedroom residence into a romantic retreat adorned with a palette of white, pink, blush and lavender.

“The house is small and flows from one room to the next, so I wanted the palette to continue,” the designer says. “The colors complement the layout.”

The town home’s original beamed ceilings, wide-plank pine flooring and two-wood burning fireplaces helped create a vintage-inspired aesthetic accented by modern bespoke pieces that help strike a balance between old and new.

The kitchen, too, features a subtle mix of styles, with the original terra cotta floors, hand-painted tiles and countertops still in place, and the existing black-painted cabinets updated only by cabinet pulls.

Tasked with the challenge of bringing more light into the living room, Geremia painted the bookshelves white and wired them so that the lights would reflect off the adjacent mirrored wall.
