Elegant Style, Casual Notes Define A Composer’s Home

When an award-winning composer moved into his new Santa Monica home, he opted to keep the furnishings from his previous residence. All he needed was a little help reimagining his old possessions for the new space.
For that he tapped designer Lisa Price.
“He’s very calm, mellow, easy-going and is usually in jeans,” observes Price, who’d worked with homeowner in the past. “But he’s also very traditional, with a sense of modern thrown in.”
To meld these diverse facts, “I make sure I carry elements throughout the house so rooms talk to one another,” she explains.
The designer mixed the client’s more sophisticated pieces — among them a Liaigre sofa she placed in the living room and a Donghia crocodile-patterned cabinet for the family room — with casual accents like organic rugs found throughout the home.
In the end, each room boasts the same stylistic mix. The soothing, primarily gray-and-white palette, warmed with rich woods and polished metal surfaces, creates a sense of calm and consistency that pervades the whole aesthetic.
