Embrace Poetic History At This Revived New York Hotel
Check In: Troutbeck
Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Langston Hughes, Ernest Hemingway: This isn’t just a list of notable male figures in American history; it’s the roster of individuals who have spent time on the 45 bucolic acres now known as Troutbeck. In the town of Amenia, this historic hotel has undergone a revitalization by interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud, whose son, Anthony, is one of its owners. The 36-room country estate retains much of its original details, like stone walls and slate roofs, oak paneling and refinished leather furnishings. Wander the communal spaces decked out in period antiques, one-of-a-kind art pieces and locally made furniture, and walk amongst the revamped trout ponds and walled garden.
