Designer Suzanne Kasler mixed vintage finds—such as a chair from Caché Antiques in Los Angeles upholstered in Fortuny fabric—with contemporary furnishings, such as the Ironware International table and Formations lantern.

NATURAL BEAUTY

Beneath an expansive skylight, a ficus and a graceful wood-and-steel staircase mark the entrance to a Manhattan Beach residence by architect Grant Kirkpatrick. General contractor Shawn Nelson oversaw the building of the exquisitely crafted structure.

Custom steel entry doors from Atelier Domingue lead to a foyer where a 19th-century French lantern from W. Gardner Antiques lights an antique table from Shabby Slips Home and sculpture from Found. Mirrors—also from W. Gardner Antiques—overlook benches in Tillett Textiles linen. The limestone flooring is from Farmhouse Stone.

Centering the foyer is a custom table from AOI Home topped with a desert rose specimen from Empressive Earth Gallery. Over custom consoles, an heirloom painting inspired the home’s color palette while a Randolph & Hein mirror is from Allan Knight and Associates. Ginger jars from The Chambers Collection top 19th-century rosewood pedestals from Oriental Treasures.

BOOK SMART

Laura and McLean say the eccentricities of their Atlanta abode have served to enrich their design sensibilities. Their foyer’s old-fashioned picture rails, for example, provide spots for meaningful pieces such as a Robert Motherwell print and an original watercolor by McLean. A gilded console from Scott Antique Markets displays souvenirs and heirlooms, including a photo of The Who taken by the architect’s uncle.

The bright, airy foyer offers a view of the backyard from the moment one enters the house. Before ground was even broken, the vintage rug envisioned and purchased for the entry. On the wall hangs MOD Tapestry 6, an indigo tapestry on linen.

STATEMENT STAIRCASE

General contractor Tony Moceri and his associate Kenny Nichol oversaw the meticulous restoration of the millwork in the grand foyer. Staton added a velvet Room & Board settee and floor lamp from Design Within Reach that suggest the meeting of new and old found throughout. The oversize damask wallpaper by Ashford House is a fresh take on similar wallpaper that once hung there.

COME ON IN

An entry door surrounded by sidelights and transoms–all by Santa Fe Door Store in Albuquerque, New Mexico–opens to a sunny foyer in an Aspen home. The custom oak-and-iron console tables were sourced through Black Hound Design Company. The artwork, called Flight Pattern I, is by Kelly O’Neal.

NATURAL BEAUTY

A Claudia Wieser faceted-mirror artwork from Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York welcomes visitors in the entry of this Key Biscayne home designed by Ellie Cullman and Alyssa Urban with the help of architect Thomas Kligerman and builder Grey Marker. Manhattan decorative painting firm Uriu LLC lacquered the entry wall in a bold citron yellow, while a vintage tubular glass pendant from Karina Gentinetta Disegno hangs from the ceiling.
