ILLUSION AND IMAGINATION: PICTORIAL DECORATIONS FOR ARCHITECTURAL SPACES, 1500-1800
Although Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces are worthy of study, sketches from the creative processes are significant works in their own right. Through June 17, Blanton Museum of Art in Austinpresents “Illusion and Imagination: Pictorial Decorations for Architectural Spaces, 1500-1800,” showing old-world rough drafts of artists’ ideas, many for palace and church interiors. “Just like interior designers’ sketches today, the drawings, prints and paintings in the exhibition show how artists developed and recorded their ideas for these grand projects,” says Jeongho Park, assistant curator of European art at the Blanton.
