A Hamptons Beach House Plays Up Its Sweeping Vistas

A Hamptons Beach House Plays Up Its Sweeping Vistas

Project manager Joshua Rosensweig says the custom aluminum-frame windows and doors by Fleetwood are “painted gray to withstand the elements and so they don’t ‘pop’ or stand out too much.” Landscape architect Brad Spaulding had similar intentions. “The minimal lawn panels were meant to be a neutral foreground to views of the ocean,” he says. He used native plantings whenever possible, including Eastern Red Cedar, shadblow and pitch pine.

The oceanfront property was calling their name.

With little luck finding a house they truly loved, this couple jumped at the opportunity to build their Hamptons dream home on a rare triple lot in Quogue.

Designed by architect Stuart Disston, the 11,000-square-foot summer retreat features seamless indoor-outdoor transitions, panoramic views that sweep from the ocean to the bay, and a private boardwalk that proceeds alongside the house, over the pool, and down to the water.

“Imagine if you’re having a pool party,” Disston says. “You can have guests walk straight out to the beach and pool.”

The inside features a palette of cool beiges and whites, while accents in nickel and silver shimmer like the sun on crashing waves. The furnishings also draw inspiration from the home’s surroundings.

“We created big open living spaces to maximize the water views and chose materials like limestone that call to mind the color and texture of sand,” interior designer Andrew Sheinman says.
