ELEGANCE IN THE SKY: THE ARCHITECTURE OF ROSARIO CANDELA”

When it comes to shaping the skyline of the Big Apple, architect Rosario Candela (1890-1953) was one of the greats. His name is attached to nearly 75 buildings, many from the 1920s and lining Park and Fifth avenues. Largely understated from the exterior, Candela’s structures boast interiors rife with glamorous detailing: Grand proportions, expanses of stone and marble, formal foyers and galleries defined his aesthetic. From May 17 to October 28, the Museum of the City of New York presents “Elegance in the Sky: The Architecture of Rosario Candela,” an exhibit that will examine his work, providing a look at spaces that defined Manhattan for the rich and famous.
