Modern Phoenix Week & Art Detour

March is a busy month for Arizona design aficionados. From March 16-25, for the 14th year, Modern Phoenix Week will spotlight the area’s best examples of midcentury style through talks, mixers and tours.

Amid the highlights–including a guide through Scottsdale’s historic Garden Apartment district and presentations by the founders of Makerville–don’t miss the heart of the happenings: the Modern Phoenix Home Tour. Held March 25, this year’s event takes attendees through 10 private custom midcentury homes in the Marion Estates area. Get up close and personal with architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright’s apprentice Blaine Drake, and don’t overlook the hidden gem in an Eddie Jones remodel: a signature breeze-block screen wall by William Krisel.

Not to be missed–and coinciding with the activities–is Art Detour, Phoenix’s original art walk and longest-running arts festival, now in its 30th year. Taking place throughout the downtown area from March 15-20, the schedule of events is packed with meet-the-artist opportunities, pop-up galleries, hands-on activities and symposiums, all family friendly. The celebrations kick off with an untraditional gala honoring the work of local artists.
