Modern, Preppy Interiors Infuse A Scottsdale Home

The owner of a Scottsdale house wanted all that the picturesque region had to offer–except the rustic Mediterranean style that’s so prevalent there. That’s where designers Jennifer O’Dowd and Joanna Gick came in. Their portfolio is alive with primary colors, geometric patterns–and a lot more Chinese Chippendale than Tuscan terra cotta.
“Our designs are really not ‘Southwest’ at all,” O’Dowd explains. “We like to focus more on light and an overall fresh feeling.”
That doesn’t mean the duo fought against the home’s beamed ceilings or limestone floors. Instead, they used them to their advantage, darkening the beams to pop against bright-white walls, and polishing the floors to shine against color-soaked rugs.
O’Dowd was aiming for a preppy Ralph Lauren look, with accents of navy blue and emerald green. She also brought in tweedy chevron wallpaper for the powder room and a rivet-studded grass cloth for the master bedroom to heighten the chic vibe.
But everyone’s favorite spot is the guest room and office, where the designers were asked to create custom bunk beds–for adults. “Guests all want to stay in that room. It’s the most popular room in the house!” O’Dowd says.
