MoMA Design Store Welcomes Cool Italian Pop-Up

Love the MoMA Design Store and Italian design and craftsmanship? If you’ve answered a collective “yes,” keep reading.

Debuting today at the downtown MoMA Design Store location, Italian brand Fattobene will be showcasing equally colorful and practical Italian-made goods during a limited in-store and online pop-up through September 29.

Founded by Anna Lagorio and Alex Carnevali, Fattobene translates to “well made,” a standard of quality to which the duo steadfastly adheres when curating the products and designs — ranging from Acca Kappa toothbrushes to the midcentury Spaghetti outdoor chair — they carry. The brand’s mission is to rediscover and introduce everyday Italian objects–dating back to as early as the 1800s through the 1970s–to both versed design connoisseurs and new generations of design lovers.

“All the pieces tell a story, and they’re much more than just useful products,” says Lagorio. “They represent a little piece of our heritage.”

Some of the founders’ favorites? The Sicilian splatterware for one, made using ancient techniques with the same green and blue hues that have traditionally been thought to ward off bugs. Another, a series of blue tiles by Italian great Gio Ponti, whose designs were inspired by the nature surrounding Sorrento.

Fattobene currently sells its finds online but has plans to open a brick-and-mortar shop in Florence this December.

Below, we highlighted some of our favorite finds at the store. Check out the pop-up at 81 Spring St. A in New York, or online.
