Paul R. Williams was the first-ever Black member of the American Institute of Architects. A Los Angeles legend, Williams designed some 2,000 buildings in the area during his career, with A-list clients including Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball. In the 1940s, he was hired for the renovation of the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he also fashioned the famous hand-written logo and iconic pink-and-green color scheme.
