Save The Date For Seattle Art Museum’s New Exhibit

“FIGURING HISTORY”

This spring, catch the Seattle Art Museum‘s latest exhibit, “Figuring History,” a collection of 25 large-scale, colorful and visually layered paintings by Robert Colescott, Kerry James Marshall (work shown above) and Mickalene Thomas. The three artists represent different generations throughout an African-American history that has been largely erased by mainstream storytelling. Presented together for the first time, the show, on display through May 13, offers a powerful retelling of history from the African-American perspective. “Each artist is distinctive in subject, approach and style, although certain themes such as the notion of ideal beauty resurfaces in each artist’s work,” says curator Catharina Manchanda.
