Step Inside The Home Away to Home: A Fresh Vision of Elevated Coastal Living
In Boca Raton, Florida, a residence designed by Yarn Design Associates redefines the meaning of home as both a retreat and a stage for elevated living. Featured in this episode of Step Inside, principal designer Leanne Yarn takes us through The Home Away to Home, a project that blends bold architectural gestures with finely tailored interiors.
From the moment you arrive, the house signals its intention: soaring volumes softened by artful layering and details that nod to both hospitality and intimacy. The entry, defined by a 22-foot ceiling, is dramatized with an elongated mirror installation that tempers scale while introducing rhythm. Suspended above, a constellation of sculptural lights, pieces more commonly found in a boutique hotel, set the tone for a residence that is unapologetically theatrical yet deeply personal.
The narrative unfolds around a sweeping staircase where a custom pedestal displays a treasured amethyst from the homeowners’ previous residence. At the heart of the home sits the bar, conceived not just as a place for cocktails but as the gravitational center of the floor plan. Clad in dimensional matte tile and anchored by a hammered metal sink, the bar is both functional and sculptural. Swivel chairs at dining height blur the line between domestic ease and entertaining sophistication, ensuring that this centerpiece is as comfortable as it is showstopping.
The home office extends the project’s language of refinement. Here, floor-to-ceiling millwork punctuated with brass inlay transforms utility into statement. A carefully chosen wallpaper in tones that echo the cabinetry tempers the expansiveness, balancing storage needs with tactile elegance.
In the primary bath, Yarn leans into glamour. Lacquered millwork and polished chrome hardware frame a vanity conceived as jewelry in its own right. Crystal-flow stone sweeps across counters, while the shower becomes a study in material variation. Its wood-look tile walls are offset by a mosaic stone niche, each surface offering its own tactile surprise. The freestanding tub, framed by honed chair rail detailing, reads as sculpture in its alcove, a place where architecture and ritual meet.
Throughout The Home Away to Home, selections and details create a rhythm between spectacle and subtlety. Yarn’s design resists the binary of private retreat versus social showpiece; instead, it allows both to exist simultaneously. It is a residence that tells its story through scale, detail and the layering of moments, culminating in an immaculate build designed to be lived in as much as it is admired.
